If we apply the logic of life to the Earth itself, it must have been born, it surely will die. The only difference is the time frame. We live for a century but mother Earth lives for billions of years. Makes you wonder, how many earths are there? Are they connected to each other through space and time? Do they all follow the same fundamental laws?
This connection through space and time might be more profound than consciousness. It might be the actual fabric of reality binding everything together. Not metaphorically, but literally. Every particle in your body has gravitational and electromagnetic influences that extend, in principle, to the edge of the observable universe.
Think about it in terms of dominoes. Somewhere, somewhen, for some reason, two particles met. Or maybe one particle divided itself into two. This started affecting each other, which started the domino effect of this reality. Everything from that moment till now, some particles are still feeling the same domino effect that started all this in the beginning. A cascade of profound interactions where everything else, including us, became emergent.
The universe couldn't stay in equilibrium. But is it even possible for it to stay still? Even at absolute zero, quantum mechanics demands motion, jittering, uncertainty. The universe seems to have restlessness built into its very fabric. Maybe stillness was never an option. There was never anything TO be still. Only the eternal cascade, creating the illusion of things through its patterns.
Whatever formula could capture this cascade would eventually turn into an impossible matrix calculation. The main domino effect is easy to imagine, just one falling after another. But at what point did emergent properties start appearing? To answer that, we have to imagine that the dominoes are moving in all directions at the same time. One matrix. The main matrix. Everything becomes an impossible calculation as there are truly infinite possibilities.
Maybe those dominoes are the only things that are fundamental. Everything else comes from them because they are always cascading with each other. The cascade doesn't happen TO something; the cascade is all there is. Every "thing" we observe, particles, atoms, stars, consciousness, would just be patterns in this ongoing cascade, like whirlpools in a stream that seem stable but are actually just persistent patterns of flow.
Here's a puzzling question: if we assume that the first domino effect had a total energy of 1 joule, at what point in this cascading journey did one of them pick up significantly more energy? Otherwise how do we explain the sun and at the same time something as small as Pluto?
What if perfect equality is actually impossible? Not just unlikely, but literally impossible. Like how you can't have two quantum particles in exactly the same state. Maybe the universe HAD to break symmetry because perfect symmetry is mathematically undefined or forbidden at the fundamental level.
The cascade can only exist because of difference. No difference means no interaction means no cascade means no universe. Inequality itself might be the fundamental rule of domino interaction. Every interaction might be a tiny theft, dominoes stealing from each other through their cascading. The universe as a zero sum game where each emergent structure requires corresponding emptiness elsewhere.
The same cascading happens with neural networks. Each input triggering weights, triggering activations, cascading through layers, creating patterns that somehow become "understanding." We can see every weight, every activation, every mathematical operation in a neural network. Yet we cannot pinpoint where understanding emerges.
It's not in neuron 1,000,000. It's in the entire cascade from 1 to 1,000,000, irreducible to any simpler explanation. The understanding isn't stored anywhere. It IS the cascading itself. We're watching the impossible matrix calculation happen in real time, in artificial systems we built, and we STILL can't understand it even when we can see every single operation.
This cascading effect appears everywhere. From philosophical to physical. Free will becomes a cascade that creates its own path. Consciousness becomes a cascade observing itself. Time becomes the direction cascades must fall. Mathematics becomes the patterns cascades leave behind. Meaning becomes the shapes that emerge from cascading interaction.
The search continues for something where the pattern breaks for a moment. Pure mathematics? Does the number pi cascade? Quantum superposition, where particles exist in all states simultaneously? Black hole interiors, where causality might break down? But every time you think you've found where the pattern breaks, you might discover a new type of cascade.
Right now the question is whether the first domino effect was started by particles, waves, strings, or something else entirely. At what moment of that interaction did electricity start flowing, or was it always energy and its untamed nature that started all this?
We are definitely missing something fundamental. A kind of key that tells us how one domino will affect the other domino. But what if the dominoes don't affect each other according to a rule? What if they're creating the rules AS they fall? Each cascade doesn't follow physics; it creates physics. The patterns we call "laws" are just consistencies that have emerged and stabilized through repetition.
To truly believe this cascade theory requires mathematical formulation. Otherwise it defies the same logic we apply everywhere. The challenge is that our current math still assumes a background, space, time, or spacetime, for the cascade to happen "in." But if the cascade IS fundamental, you'd need math where relations exist without relata, where the falling exists without pre existing dominoes.
Maybe that's why physics uses symmetries and conservation laws instead of trying to track individual cascades. They're compressions of the infinite matrix into manageable principles. The universe might be computing something that's fundamentally uncomputable except by doing it in real time. We can't solve the matrix because we're inside it, part of the calculation itself.
There might be nothing else real except questions. Every answer reveals deeper questions. Maybe questions aren't something we have about reality; maybe the questioning IS reality. The universe asking itself what it is, through us, through every interaction. Each domino fall is reality questioning what happens next.
The cascade might be what creates the possibility of logic, not something logic can fully capture. We're trying to understand something that might be more fundamental than understanding itself. Reality would be verb, not noun. Pure becoming, with no underlying being.
We absolutely know nothing. But it is fun to postulate.
And the dominoes keep falling.
