The vastness of the universe is really mind boggling. I constantly wonder if there is an end or if the underlying matter is timeless, beginning-less and endless. As we will never be able to comprehend the vastness, it's safer to assume that the underlying matter is what there is and universes pop out like supernovas. We are part of one of those universes.
The infinitude of it. The vastness always puts me in my place. I cannot escape that feeling.
For a long time, I didn't want to give in to god, but I was running out of theories. Consciousness might be the most fundamental thing, like the Advaitists argue. But I think we will always be wrong in this regard. The vastness is just too vast for both our brain and the limited functions of consciousness we hold.
This question has been puzzling minds since the beginning of life itself. Why do I have to exist at all?
I have made peace with all this. It doesn't bother me anymore whether we find an answer or not. The vastness is pretty evident to me at this point to arrive at any conclusion with our limited sense of being.
And honestly, it is definitely worth existing for. This all might actually be bliss, that we not only get to experience it but question it itself.
Isn't it crazy that Advaita has been teaching this for thousands of years but it is impossible to grasp without asking all the hard questions? Nothing even comes close to describing existence as poetically and as logically. I wonder what kind of social situations propelled them into that kind of deep philosophical work. Or does every human, if curious enough, arrive at the same point inevitably?
I'm inclined to believe that consciousness itself needs investigating to truly see the social illusion we have built. Isn't it paradoxical that we are built to be social but the only way we can truly reconcile with existence is by being truly ourselves?
There's one more thought I had recently. In the future, if we get to AGI, I think the world will be forced to introspect. Everyone will have to go inside their void. The whole human race might become curious and not just a few individuals.
If it's sudden, it will be devastating. But I think we will ease into it. The internet has already amplified the dimensions of our collective thinking. AI is definitely gonna expand it even more.
I don't need everyone to choose the void but enough of them so that the rest will follow. I just choose to be optimistic. I don't think we will get to AGI in my lifetime but we will definitely get to very very smart AI systems that will start the dissolution.
This perspective has changed how I move through daily life. I have this deep sense of wonder that pervades everything. I can clearly see through the incredible social illusions we have built. The game doesn't feel uncomfortable anymore as I'm happy to play it now.
I never had to frame this before. I actually never try to frame anything until someone asks me about why I said what I said. But there's something valuable in articulating what you intuitively know. The experience comes first, the words are secondary. But sometimes the words help you see what was already there.
